Start of Pregnancy Journey, Finding out: 2023

Not shore where to start for this journey, however, I think I will start at the beginning of my pregnancy.

I had no idea I was pregnant, especially after having a miscarriage 6 months prior, I wasn’t really thinking about a baby or having another. We just moved back to California and my husband had returned to Pennsylvania for the rest of our items.

One day I was ordering some groceries online and decided to get a pregnancy test and ginger tea. I was feeling nauseous for a week or so now and was not shore why. I thought the ginger tea would help and why not a test, it is probably negative, however, if it was negative I needed to schedule a doctor’s appointment to get this nauseous feeling go away.

That afternoon, I took the test and called up an AIRA agent to assist with reading the results.

AIRA is a subscription based service where sighted people are trained to assist blind people with anything visual, from reading mail, ingredients, directions, or even street signs or describing what is around you.

The agent I got said the positive line was faint, but there. I did not believe him, so I took another test and used Be My Eyes, which is a similar service, however, volunteer based and completely free to use. They have a specialty line connecting you directly to a Clear Blue specialist. I called them up and they confirmed it was a positive result.

At this point, I was a little giddy and also extremely nervous. This would also be my first time finding out the result without my husband finding out at the same time. Should I tell him right away? Should I wait until he returns home, which would be the next day? My brain was flying with all sorts of scenarios and what to do.

I told my best friend Britney and asked her ideas on telling my husband, since she is very good at surprises and has such great ideas.

She suggested I wait until he gets home and that is how I felt as well, I didn’t want to add any stress or distract him from finishing cleaning the house in Pennsylvania. It was so hard blurting it out when talking with him on the phone that night, somehow I managed though.

I decided that the girls would draw on a piece of paper and I wrote welcome home Bubba of 3. Thinking that would be a hint. We taped it on the wall in front of the door and waited for him to come home from the airport.

When he came home, he didn’t register the pictures at first, he thought I was referring to Yoda, our cat at the third one. Once he didn’t have a reaction I just told him there, as we all were sitting on the floor greeting each other.
