Our Summer Road Trip Part1

I will break this post up into sections, because it is quite lengthy. 😀

Hope you enjoy.

The scorching summer sun, the open road stretching out ahead, and the promise of adventure—that’s what our road trip from Central Valley California to Houston Texas was all about. We packed our bags, my husband, 5-year-old Maria, 2-year-old Marwa, and 4-month-old Safa, filled the gas tank, and set off on a journey filled with breathtaking landscapes, delicious cuisine, unforgettable experiences, and a meaningful detour. Join us as we take you on a virtual tour of our epic summer road trip.

Our journey started in the heart of Central Valley, California, where the sun-kissed fields and orchards set the stage for our adventure. With our trusty road map and a playlist of our favorite tunes, we hit the open road, eager to explore new horizons.

One of the joys of a road trip is the opportunity to witness the diverse landscapes of our beautiful country. As we made our way through the picturesque deserts of Arizona, the lush forests of New Mexico, and the vast plains of West Texas, we couldn’t help but be in awe of the ever-changing scenery.

Here is some of what we did.

A Journey into the Heart of the Wild West: The Train Ride to the Grand Canyon from Williams, AZ

The anticipation hung in the air as we stood on the platform of the Williams Depot, ready to embark on a train ride like no other. Our destination: the majestic Grand Canyon, one of the most iconic natural wonders of the world. Little did we know that the journey itself would be an unforgettable adventure through the heart of the Wild West.

As we boarded the vintage Grand Canyon Railway, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia. The train, with its old-fashioned charm, evoked images of a bygone era when rail travel was the epitome of luxury and exploration.

The moment we settled into our seats; the train came to life. The mighty locomotive let out a powerful roar as it pulled us away from the station, its rhythmic chug-chug and my children’s laughter filling the air. The journey had begun, and we were transported not only through space but also back in time.

Our route took us through the rugged beauty of the Arizona wilderness. The scenery was a photographer’s dream, with wide-open plains, rolling hills, and stands of ponderosa pine trees. It felt as if we were journeying through a classic Western film set.

One of the joys of this train ride was the opportunity to spot wildlife along the way. We were fortunate to see deer, elk, and even a coyote as we chugged through the pristine landscape. The experience was a reminder of the untamed beauty of the American West.

The Grand Canyon Railway didn’t just offer stunning views; it also provided entertainment to keep passengers engaged. Musicians serenaded us with Western tunes, and costumed characters added a touch of theatricality to the journey. The atmosphere was lively and filled with laughter.

Throughout the ride, a knowledgeable guide shared stories and insights about the history of the railway and the Grand Canyon. It was fascinating to learn about the early explorers, the challenges they faced, and the role of the railroad in making the Grand Canyon accessible to visitors.

As the train approached the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, the excitement on board reached a crescendo. The moment we stepped off the train, we were greeted by the breathtaking expanse of the canyon before us. The sight was nothing short of awe-inspiring, and it was hard to tear our eyes away from the vastness of the chasm.

We had a few hours to explore the South Rim, and we made the most of it by walking along the rim trail, taking in the panoramic views, and capturing photographs that would forever remind us of this extraordinary experience.

As we drove towards New Mexico, we came upon this enchanting attraction.

Grand Canyon Deer farm near Williams, Arizona.

As we entered the gates of the Grand Canyon Deer Farm, a sense of excitement filled the air. Nestled in the high desert of northern Arizona, this hidden gem is a haven for animal lovers and a delightful surprise for travelers exploring the region.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the deer farm was the opportunity to get up close and personal with a variety of animals. While deer were the stars of the show, we also had the chance to interact with other furry friends, including pygmy goats, llamas, and prairie dogs. Feeding these animals by hand was a highlight for both young and old alike and my children were having a blast!

The main attraction, of course, was the deer. These majestic creatures roamed freely within spacious enclosures, and we were able to approach them without barriers. Their gentle nature and curiosity made it a memorable experience as they approached us, hoping for a snack or a gentle pat.

We purchased bags of specially formulated deer food, and the magic of hand-feeding the deer was an unforgettable moment. As we extended our hands with treats, the deer would gracefully approach, their velvet antlers contrasting with their soft, brown eyes. It was a moment of connection with nature that left us feeling both humbled and joyful.

The Grand Canyon Deer Farm isn’t just a petting zoo; it’s also an educational destination. The staff was knowledgeable and eager to share insights about the animals’ behavior, habitat, and conservation. We learned about the importance of preserving these animals and their natural habitats.

A special highlight was our interaction with the farm’s majestic reindeer. These antlered wonders captured our hearts as we watched them gracefully prance and interact with one another. Learning about their unique characteristics and the symbolism of reindeer in different cultures added depth to our visit.
