Good day fellow readers. I wanted to come in and talk about my upcoming homeschooling journey.
I have always thought of homeschooling my children, even before I had children and thought it a great idea. Especially being blind, not having to worry about what homework my kids bring home, what notes the teacher has sent, and even if the app that the school might be using accessible. Homeschooling gives me the chance and opportunity to have all materials, homework, projects, etc. accessible and I know what needs to be done because I was the one who assigned it.
At the beginning of last year, I was rethinking this homeschooling idea, because I have 3 kids now and I so need a break. What am I going to do? How can I juggle everything and everyone?
Well, I decided to get my oldest into a private local school for the first year, to help her learn the basics of reading and spelling. then I can expand on that in homeschool, once I have figured out my juggling act with the other 2 girls.
She had a wonderful time in the school, made friends and finally was able to start reading! The year went by fast and gave me time to think about what is happening next.
Now, it is a new school year and now its time to homeschool. We have decided on a name, since here in California, you fill out a private school affidavit, to have a record of homeschooling and now the planning is in progress. I figured we will start the beginning of September and both girls, my 7-year-old and my 4-year-old will start the learning process.
It is definitely going to be a challenge, and I hope that I can be a good teacher for them. I am still struggling and wondering what to do and when, how, what if, etc. Getting them into local groups so they can meet and play with other kids is a whole other challenge I am facing, especially since I cannot drive, taking a Lyft/Uber can get pricy. However, that info and details will smooth themselves out hopefully.
Anyway, I will end it here, if you have homeschooled or are homeschooling, tips, tricks, ideas are always welcome!
