Today started off like any other day, filled with plans and routines, but as it often goes in the life of a mom, things didn’t quite turn out as expected. Our plan was to head to the library for storytime, a favorite outing that Marwa usually looks forward to. However, our morning took a turn when she decided to tear a library book. As you can imagine, this wasn’t part of the plan, and I had to call off the library trip.
Of course, that led to some cries and screams—a natural reaction for a three-year-old whose excitement was suddenly dashed. It’s always tough when things don’t go as planned, especially for little ones, but the storm eventually passed, and we settled into the rest of the day.
After the tears dried and calm returned, we focused on something more constructive. I went over some addition problems with Maria, and to my delight, she was absolutely loving it! She took to it like a little math wizard, her enthusiasm bubbling over as she solved problem after problem. We then moved on to some subtraction, and though it took a bit more focus, she was equally determined.
After our math adventure, we shifted gears to quiet time. I took the opportunity to head out for a short walk around the neighborhood with Astro, my loyal guide dog. These quiet moments are precious—just me, Astro, and the sounds of the world around us. There’s something so calming about feeling the rhythm of his paws on the pavement and the breeze on my face.
As the day moved along, around 4 PM, we decided to head to the library after all, this time for family bingo. I had brailled some bingo cards beforehand so I could play along, and Maria and I had a blast! It’s such a simple activity, but there’s something special about being in a room filled with families, all enjoying the same game, each number called out building suspense. We had a lot of fun, and it was wonderful to hear everyone’s exclaims of delight with each win.
After some time at the library, we headed home, where dinner awaited us. The day had its ups and downs, but it ended on a peaceful note. Now, with everyone asleep, I think it’s time for me to get some rest too.
Tomorrow is a new day, and who knows what adventures or misadventures it will bring. But whatever happens, we’ll roll with it, just like today.
