Ramadan Islam Facts – Day 1: Ramadan and the Five Pillars of Islam

Hello fellow readers, I hope you are doing well and staying safe. I wanted to start something during this blessed month Ramadan and post daily facts about Islam, that you might know or not. I hope this is beneficial to you.

Since today, March 1 2025 is the first day of Ramadan, God willing I can keep this up and enlighten you on this month and Islam.

Islam is built upon five essential pillars—acts of worship and devotion that form the foundation of a Muslim’s faith and practice.

The five pillars of Islam are:

1 Shahada – The declaration of faith in one God (Allah) and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His messenger.

2 Salah – Performing the five daily prayers.

3 Zakat – Giving to charity to support those in need.

4 Sawm – Fasting during Ramadan

5 Hajj – The pilgrimage to Mecca for those who are able.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is when Muslims around the world fast from dawn (Fajr prayer) to sunset (Maghreb prayer). But fasting isn’t just about avoiding food and drink—it’s a way to develop self-control, gratitude, and empathy for those who are less fortunate. It strengthens faith and brings Muslims closer to Allah through worship, prayer, and charity.

Ramadan isn’t just a time of fasting—it’s a time to renew faith, seek forgiveness, and grow spiritually. Through this pillar, Muslims reflect on their purpose and strengthen their connection with Allah.

Stay tuned for more facts about Islam and Ramadan throughout the month!
