The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Whoever is kind to the creatures of God, he is kind to himself.”
— Sunan Abu Dawood
One of the most unique and beautiful aspects of Islam is the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) deep compassion for all living beings, including animals. He taught that animals are part of Allah’s creation and should be treated with kindness and care.
The Prophet’s Mercy to Animals
The Prophet (PBUH) showed mercy to animals in many ways:
🐪 A camel’s complaint – Once, the Prophet saw a camel crying due to being overworked. He comforted the camel and advised its owner to treat it with kindness. (Sunan Abu Dawood)
🐶 A woman and a cat – The Prophet (PBUH) warned that a woman was punished for neglecting her cat, not feeding it, nor letting it go to find food. (Sahih Bukhari)
💧 A man and a thirsty dog – A man saw a thirsty dog and gave it water. The Prophet (PBUH) said that Allah forgave all the man’s sins for this small act of kindness. (Sahih Bukhari)
🌙 Reflection
This hadith reminds me that Islam isn’t just about rituals—it’s about living with kindness in all aspects of life. The Prophet’s care for animals teaches us that every living creature deserves respect. During Ramadan, while we focus on worship, we should also reflect on how we treat Allah’s creation.
🌟 How can we show more kindness to animals in our daily lives?
