Hi there! I’m Mandi, the heart and soul behind *The Dappled Odyssey*. I’m a proud mama of three amazing girls and the devoted human to Astro, my fifth seeing eye dog and loyal black lab. My life is a whirlwind of adventure, challenges, and beautiful chaos, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I’ve been blind since birth due to Leber’s congenital amaurosis, though for most of my life, I was told I had retinitis pigmentosa. This unique journey has shaped who I am, and while it’s presented its fair share of obstacles, it’s also given me a perspective on life that’s rich with gratitude, resilience, and curiosity.
Raised by my incredible grandmother, I grew up with a deep love for exploring the world, which I carry with me to this day. Traveling is one of my greatest passions, and I’ve been fortunate to experience many cultures and landscapes that have enriched my life in countless ways. Whether it’s hiking through a dense forest, cooking up a storm in the kitchen, or simply writing down my thoughts and stories, I’m always seeking new experiences that push my boundaries and help me grow.
*The Dappled Odyssey* is a space where I share my journey as a mom, traveler, and blind woman navigating the world. Here, I document the joys and challenges of motherhood, a new homeschooling experience, the thrill of exploring new places, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. I also write about my love for animals and nature, two constants that bring me immense joy and comfort.
Astro, my trusty seeing eye dog, is more than just a guide—he’s my companion in all things, from daily errands to cross-country adventures. He’s been with me through thick and thin, and his unwavering loyalty is something I treasure deeply.
