This morning started off super early, as usual. If you’ve seen my previous post, you’ll know I’ve been worrying quite a bit lately about whether I’m getting enough learning in for Maria, what to include, and what not to include, especially as we juggle homeschooling for both Maria and Marwa. But today, I decided to take a different approach. After reading a blog post by another homeschooling mom about her laid-back and flexible days, I thought, why not just wing it and see how it goes?
We began our morning with some Quran reading, setting a peaceful and reflective tone for the day. After that, we read a cute book called *Allah Knows All About Me*. It’s always such a joy to see the girls engage with stories that connect with their faith and identity. We spent a bit of time discussing the book, and then we moved on to some sight words for Maria.
I had already prepared a list of sight words for her to look over, so I printed them out. To my surprise, she knew all the words! Feeling proud of her progress, I decided to have her use those words to write sentences. She did a fantastic job, showing creativity and understanding in her writing. After that, we moved on to a fun book, *You Can Do It, Paw Patrol*. As we read, I noticed there were a few words Maria wasn’t quite familiar with, so I had her write them down on the back of her paper for extra practice.
Looking back at it now, it doesn’t seem like much when I write it all down, but I think it was just the right amount for this morning. Maria was focused, and the activities kept her engaged without feeling overwhelmed. Of course, things took a bit of a turn when Safa decided to start throwing a fit right toward the end of our session—always impeccable timing! But luckily, we were almost done, so we managed to wrap things up without too much disruption.
After our little homeschooling session, we had lunch and then Alma, our wonderful cleaning lady, came over to do a full house cleaning. It’s such a relief to have her help keep things tidy, especially on days like today when everything feels a bit chaotic.
Now, everyone is in quiet time. Safa is napping, Marwa is playing quietly, and I’m taking this moment to reflect and write this post. It wasn’t a perfect morning, but I think it was a good one. I’m learning to trust the process and remind myself that not every day needs to be meticulously planned out. Some days, it’s okay to go with the flow and let learning happen naturally.
